Special Operator Senior Chief Petty Officer Thomas John Valentine

(1970-2008)SOCS Thomas John Valentine served 18 1/2 years as a US Navy SEAL. On February 13, 2008,Tom was killed during HAHO training in Casa Grande, Arizona, while preparing for his 10th deployment in support of OEF and OIF.

Tom reported for Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL Training at Naval Special Warfare Center, Coronado, California, in January of 1990. After graduating with class 169, he attended and successfully completed the Airborne Course at Fort Benning, Georgia and reported to SEAL Team TWO.

In June 1998, Tom screened for and passed the demanding and intense six-month training program at Naval Special Warfare Development Group (NSWDG). He served with distinction during a magnificent and demanding 10 year tour at NSWDG, where he excelled as both an operator and a leader. His performance across the full spectrum of SEAL operations was marked with incredible enthusiasm for the job, the highest degree of commitment to the SEAL Teams, and a sense of duty to be emulated by all! Tom was a brilliant leader who inspired us every day!

During his service, Tom was awarded the Silver Star, three Bronze Stars with “V” for valor, two Joint Service Commendations Medals, three Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, three Combat Action Ribbons, and numerous other medals and awards. Tom is survived by his wife Christina, his children John and Meghan.

This event is meant to honor Tommy, and to pave the road for families of Navy SEALS who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for this great Nation and to support those families left behind.
